Mental Health & Chiropractic

How does chiropractic help improve your mental health?

Chiropractic adjustments work to enhance oxygen and blood flow to the brain. Depression, anxiety and external stress are only made worse when the body also has internal physical stress on the brain stem.

The top bone in your neck that sits underneath your skull is called the Atlas. This bone can easily move around to allow you to turn your head but also provides protection to the brain stem, the part of your brain that becomes smaller and turns into your spinal cord. The brain is not just a stand alone organ that sits inside of you skull. It just becomes labeled as such. But in reality the brain extends down past your skull into your brain stem, into a spinal cord, and splits off into the various nerves and sensors all over your the rest of your body. This is how the brain senses and feels experiences and reacts to your‚Äč environment.

If the quality of life that you currently experience seems foggy, off, stressful, or depressing, consider taking care of the brain and nerves, the vital organs that control how you perceive these stresses and realities of life. If there is diminished blood-flow to the brain due to neck bones being rotated or the muscles being too tight and stiff, that will in turn lower the quality of life and experiences on a day to day basis. Thinking, focusing and managing stressful situations becomes much more difficult when those nerve signals are jammed and blood-flow isn't circulating. It's like a wifi signal-- the more bars the faster the connection. The same concept applies with your brain and body. The better those are connected, the better you will think, feel and function.

Patient Success Story

I first came to Dr. Rachel because I was in excruciating pain in my upper back and neck. My pain was a constant 8/10 and Icould hardly perform daily activities. When I met with her the first time, we went through my medical history and she educated me on how not being aligned can have some really negative effects. I had no idea! After a few visits with Dr. Rachel, my back was feeling much better and I had no pain! My range of motion in my neck returned, I found I was sleeping better at night, but best of all my anxiety and depression  fell to an all time low. I've been battling anxiety and depression for nearly 15 years and my symptoms after seeing Dr. Rachel arelike day and night. My brain functions better during the day, I can concentrate more, and I'm overall in a much better mood day todaythan I was before I started seeing her! I keep up with adjustments to make sure I'm keeping everything aligned and keepmyself feeling good. I know when I go too long without seeing her because my mood will decline with passing days, I'll feel less like "myself", or just "off" in general which lets me know that I'm overdue for another adjustment! I'm so glad I found Dr. Rachel and cannot recommend her enough--especially for those who need help with their mental health! Amazing bedside manner and very knowledgeable. Thank you Dr. Rachel for your excellent care!
